Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler concluded the week with another thrilling victory to win the doubles title in Acapulco after coming within two points of losing their opening match at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC. The team has won the ATP Tour three times, but this is their first victory outside of Austria.
In the championship match on Saturday, the Austrians defeated the Americans Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow 7-6(9), 7-6(3), holding off six set points in the first set and one in the second.
In the tie-break, Erler/Miedler overcame a 2/6 disadvantage and held off two additional set chances at 8/9 to win the set after losing a set point at 5-4 in the first set. They saved a set point at 40/40 and never trailed in the second tie-break as they stopped Lammons/Withrow from serving out the second set at 5-4. The Austrians' perfect 3-0 record in ATP Tour finals was increased with the triumph. They improved to a 20-13 overall record and a 9-6 record in 2023.
