Folarin Balogun of Arsenal has chosen to play for the United States rather than England, and Fifa has approved of his decision. The 21-year-old, whose current club is Reims in France on loan, was born in the US to parents from Nigeria but was nurtured in England.
Balogun had represented England's Under-21 team, however he withdrew in March due to an injury. The upcoming European Under-21 Championship will not feature him. Balogun has 34 appearances for Reims this season and 19 goals in Ligue 1.
"To represent the United States means a lot, more than people would know. I'm very proud and honoured to have this opportunity, and I want to give everything I have to make our team successful, "said Balogun.
