According to Saba Karim, the former chief selector for Team India, Australia is one of the favorites to win the forthcoming 2022 T20 World Cup, which will be played in October of this year.
The Men in Yellow, who defeated New Zealand in the 2021 T20 World Cup's grand finals played in the United Arab Emirates, are the defending champions. Karim, meanwhile, thinks that Australia's batting lineup possesses sufficient firepower to enable them defend their title.
Speaking exclusively on SPORTS18, former India selector Saba Karim said, "Australia are favorites to win the T20 World Cup. I think they remain a formidable side and are the favorites. More so because they are playing on Australian soil and the kind of changes, they have brought into the team, reflects that they are in sync with what is required to win such tournaments in Australia."
"Big ground, so you need some more power hitters, so they bulk up that kind of portion in the side. So, they have Tim David and Glen Maxwell. For instance, in this team, you don’t have Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis, both of them very high in terms of power hitting. So, this kind of combination makes them a very strong side to retain the T20 World Cup again,” Karim added.
A three-match T20I series between Australia and India is now underway. Australia won the first game quite handily, and they will aim to continue dominating in the second T20I match, which will take place at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on September 23.
The Australian team will return home to play the West Indies in a limited-overs series and get ready for the upcoming crucial event after finishing the T20I series in India.
