The BCCI president wanted to issue a show-cause notice to the then-India Test captain before the series against South Africa in December 2021, according to a big discovery in the entire Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli issue.
Virat attended the press conference ahead of the Indian team's departure for South Africa and made some bold statements. He said that no one from the board or the selection committee had asked him to rethink his decision to retire from T20 cricket captaincy, despite Ganguly's claim that he personally asked the great batsman not to retire from the shortest format of the game.
Before being released as ODI captain, the 33-year-old also complained about a lack of communication between him and the board.
Kohli's statements in front of the media did not sit well with the BCCI, as they put both the board and Ganguly in a bad light. And it's been stated that such a Ganguly had prepared a letter and meant to send a written warning to Kohli for his reaction, in what could have been an extraordinary action in Indian cricket history.
The 49-year-old has also spoken with BCCI members about the situation. However, the board ultimately decided that informing the Test captain days before the Test series in the Nation was not necessary.
Kohli had given up T20I captaincy after the 2021 T20 World Cup, but the BCCI's decision to replace him as India's ODI captain, even after his right to continue in the role, greater concern, and the batsman's relationship with the board and president Ganguly became tense, and relations between the two are still tense.
Kohli decided to resign as Test captain after losing the South Africa series, and he even called BCCI secretary Jay Shah before making the announcement. However, according to reports, he did not bother to call Ganguly.
"Indian cricket has developed significantly in all formats of the game under Virat's leadership... his decision is a personal one, and BCCI respects it greatly... he will be an important member in taking this team to further heights in the future. A fantastic player. excellent work.," According to Ganguly,
For the first time in almost five years, Virat launched a new chapter in his career on Wednesday, playing as a pure batsman in any format of the game.
