Several former players have voiced their displeasure with the ODI format's structure in recent weeks, criticizing it and raising worries about its future. Wasim Akram, a former renowned fast bowler, had expressed his opinion that one-day cricket is "dying" and turning into a drag.
Salman Butt, a former captain of Pakistan, asserted that the only difference between ODIs and T20s is that the latter feature international leagues and entail more money. Despite respecting Akram's viewpoint, Butt emphasized that the former pacer has more over 500 wickets in ODIs. Because there isn't enough time in the shortest style of cricket for that, he believes that two of the famous deliveries delivered by Akram in World Cups are not something you can expect in T20 cricket.
They can have a cash-rich option in T20s: Salman Butt
Butt is of the opinion that players stay in the T20Is because it pays out more money. He believes that because T20Is and Test cricket are more lucrative, players who are fatigued from a hectic schedule would choose to skip ODIs. The former captain of Pakistan says he would never want the one-day game to end and calls it a "pillar" of cricket.
“Wasim Bhai is our legend. Who are we to say anything to him. I respect his opinion, but he also has 500 wickets in ODIs only. The two deliveries he bowled in the World Cup that everyone remembers; you won’t see them in T20s. There’s not enough time in that format. He was the man of the match in the World Cup final,” added Butt.
