After a thrilling match at Lusail Stadium, Cameroon upset a Brazil team resting several of its regulars, but their World Cup season was still over. In injury time, Vincent Aboubakar scored the game-winning goal with a header, but his elation was short-lived as he received a second yellow card for taking off his shirt. Cameroon performed admirably throughout but the Swiss team's victory over Serbia eliminated Cameroon's chances of moving on to the round of 16.
Brazil coach Tite made 10 substitutions despite his team already having qualified after their first two games, and Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli took the chance to shine with a strong performance in which he was repeatedly denied by Cameroon goalkeeper Devis Epassy.
Despite the defeat, the pre-tournament favourites top Group G and now face South Korea in the next round after a thrilling victory over Portugal gave them an advantage over Uruguay, who defeated Ghana, on goals scored.
