In a thrilling fourth-round performance at the clay-court major, top seed Carlos Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday at Roland Garros to successfully fulfil his vendetta.
After dropping the first two games of the match, the Spaniard rebounded by winning 18 of the following 23 games to secure a two-hour, eight-minute triumph. Alcaraz entered his second consecutive quarterfinal at the Roland Garros tournament by purposefully clubbing the ball off both wings from the baseline and frequently showcasing his deft touch at the net.
Musetti had defeated Alcaraz on clay in their lone prior ATP Head2Head encounter, the Hamburg final in July, but despite getting out to a strong start on Court Philippe-Chatrier, he never appeared poised to repeat that performance. Alcaraz defeated Musetti 42 to 17 with wins and converted seven of his fourteen break points to set up a quarterfinal matchup either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Sebastian Ofner.
