Graham Potter had his best game in charge of Chelsea as they overturned a first-leg deficit against Borussia Dortmund to advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. After Chelsea's significant outlay in the transfer market and a string of poor results, Potter was under a tonne of pressure. But, he will be hoping that the manner of this performance and Chelsea's advancement into the top tournament will bring some peace and stability to Stamford Bridge.
Raheem Sterling finally broke through for Chelsea after 43 minutes, shooting past Dortmund goalkeeper Alexander Meyer after initially fluffing his effort. Chelsea certainly deserved their victory, but they missed a number of significant chances prior to that. Disputedly, eight minutes after the half, Dortmund scored from the penalty spot to end the match and reverse the score of 1-0 from the first leg.
Dortmund was incensed when a VAR review found Marius Wolf guilty of handball following a Ben Chilwell pass, and their sense of injustice only increased when Kai Havertz's penalty attempt hit the post and a re-take was mandated. Havertz was flawless this time, as Chelsea advanced to the round of eight.
