Novak Djokovic won the hard-court Grand Slam by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final with scores of 6-3, 7-6(4), and 7-6(5) to set a new record. The Serbian tied Rafael Nadal's record of 22 Grand Slam titles with his triumph in Melbourne.
Djokovic experienced a surge of emotion in response to the historic victory. He climbed inside his player box to celebrate with his squad while tears also flowed among the wave of Serbian flags at Melbourne Park's Garden Square.
With his victory, the 35-year-old returned to the top spot in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings for the first time since last June. Djokovic defeated Tsitsipas, who would have taken the top spot himself with a win in Sunday's final, to record his 10th straight tour-level victory. Carlos Alcaraz will now be replaced as the leader by Djokovic on Monday.
