With the Asia Cup starting on August 27 and less than a week away, Sri Lanka has experienced a big setback with the exclusion of fast bowling ace Dushmantha Chameera.
Following Pakistan's fast bowling star Shaheen Afridi's exclusion from the Asia Cup due to a knee injury received during the Test series against Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan fast bowler Chameera is likely to miss the forthcoming tournament.
The fielding coach for the Sri Lankan team, Anton Roux, published a message on his official Instagram account in which he thanked the pacer for his generosity and humility and revealed that he will be unable to play due to injury.
His post read, “One of the kindest people I’ve met, and also extremely professional in his approach to his game. So gutted for him about his injury which rules him out of the Asia Cup, but I’m sure Dushy will bounce back stronger for the World Cup in Australia come October. Injuries are part of professional sport and sometimes the road to recovery can be a lonely process. That’s why it’s important to support injured players as best as possible during this phase. See you soon Dushy.”
