In the ASB Classic final on Saturday, Richard Gasquet put on a spectacular performance to win his first ATP Tour championship since 2018. The 36-year-old Frenchman defeated second-seeded Cameron Norrie, a former resident of Auckland, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
By winning the match's final five games, he became the event's oldest champion in its 66-year history. The former World No. 7 last won a tour-level championship 's-Hertogenbosch more than four years ago.
The victory in Auckland is only his second career victory on an outdoor hard court, and it moved him up 25 spots to No. 42 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings this week (Doha 2013). It is his 16th championship in a distinguished career.
