Hubert Hurkacz, the second seed, strengthened his Moselle Open title defence on Friday with a commanding victory in the quarterfinals.
The Pole was considerably more effective in a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against France's Arthur Rinderknech in the Metz quarterfinals after lost seven games in his opening match against Dominic Thiem. The defending champion won the match in little over an hour, saving the sole break point that came his way at 1-2 in the second set before claiming the final five games and the final 14 points of the match.
Hurkacz has slipped one spot this week to No. 11 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings, but he can return to the Top 10 by beating Jannik Sinner to the Metz Open. Hurkacz's semifinal opponent on Saturday will be Lorenzo Sonego. The Italian won all six sets he played this week, including the match against Sebastian Korda on Friday, which he won 6-4, 6-4.
