Mahela Jayawardene was currently working with Sri Lanka national team as the batting consultant in Oman.
He has decided to leave the foreign land and fly back home ahead of the Super 12 stage.
Jayawardene confirmed these developments to the media and stated that prolonged stays in bio bubble and quarantine is affecting him now.
Jayawardene confirmed that he will be there for his team’s service all the way from home with the help of technology.
Sri Lanka has already advanced to the Super 12 stage from Group A. They won two out of two initial games and a great NRR also helped their cause.
It’s tough. I just counted that I have been 135 days in quarantine and bubbles since June and I am in (the) last legs. But I totally understand, and I told them I will be with the group with the technology that we have. I hope that anyone can understand that being a father that I haven’t seen my daughter for that many days. I need to get back home.
Before taking up the charge of batting consultant for Sri Lanka, Jayawardene was busy in coaching duties with Southern Braves in England’s new 100-ball format game The Hundred.
He then moved for the second leg of IPL 2021 to be with Mumbai Indians
