Bangladesh won their second match in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, defeating Sri Lanka by a margin of three wickets.
Pathum Nissanka gave Sri Lanka a strong start when batting first, but the Lankan Lions lost wickets quickly. Charith Asalanka calmed things down and eventually managed to hit a century to help Sri Lanka post 279 runs on board. In the meantime, there was a lot of commotion around Angelo Matthews' wicket. Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, appealed against him being late to the crease, making him the first player to be timed out in international cricket history.
When it came to the chase, Madushanka once again picked up important wickets in the powerplay, but Shakib and Najmul Shanto’s partnership changed the complexion of the game. After they both scored 82 and 90 runs respectively, Bangladesh won the match by a margin of three wickets.
