India maintained their winning run in the ODI World Cup 2023 after defeating the reigning champions, England, handily in the Lucknow-based Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The Men in Blue had trouble getting going when they batted first, but Rohit Sharma set an example by hitting 87 runs to steer the ship in the right direction. Following his dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav had one of his finest innings in an ODI, scoring 49 runs to lead India to 229 runs in the first innings.
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah smashed through England's top order when it came time to chase. In the fifth over of the innings, Bumrah dismissed Dawid Malan and Joe Root from the game. Prior to the first powerplay, Bumrah also sent Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes back to the pavilion. Later, India defeated the Three Lions with ease thanks to the outstanding bowling of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.
