Indian captain Virat Kohli returned to the fifth position in the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings on Wednesday. His excellent innings in the ongoing T20I series against England in Ahmedabad won him 47 rating points after making 73 and 77 in the second and third matches respectively. England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler reclaimed a position in the top 20 of player rankings and got the 19th spot after his match-winning 83 not out in the third T20I on Tuesday. His innings helped England win the match by 8 wickets and achieve 2-1 in the series. Jonny Bairstow made 40 runs and an uninterrupted 77-run stand with Buttler in the win on Tuesday. He too has moved up to 14th position in the list led by his compatriot Dawid Malan. Jason Roy has advanced to 24th with scores of 49 and 46 in the first two matches. For India, Shreyas Iyer moved up to 31st, Rishabh Pant to 80th, while all-rounder Washington Sundar got the 11th, Shardul Thakur moved to 27th and Bhuvneshwar Kumar moved up to 45th in the list for bowlers. Wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope reaches the seventh position in the ICC Men's ODI Player Rankings. His player of the series effort against Sri Lanka where he scored 110, 84, and 64, helped him gain five slots. Afghanistan players also saw improvement in their rankings. Afghanistan batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi entered the top 100. He has climbed 47 places to the 90thosition. Captain Asghar Afghan moved up to a career-best 65th place while leg-spinner Rashid Khan reached 32nd position in the rankings. Zimbabwe captain Sean Williams is up to a career-best 24th place after scoring 151 while following-on, his tally of 621 rating points. Donald Tiripano's inning of 95 helped him progress 22 places to 123rd in the charts. Nicholas Pooran moved up one place to 32nd, Evin Lewis on 44th position and Darren Bravo on 99th rank in the batting list. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph earned a career-best 27th position. For the Sri Lanka Team, Danushka Gunathilaka gained 20 slots to reach 51st position after scoring 187 runs in the series while PWH de Silva and Lakshan Sandakan move up in the bowlers- list.
India achieved 2nd position in the T20 Ranking with England still being on the top. Both teams had fine performances in the series, allowing them to plan for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup later this year in India.
