Iga Swiatek, the world's top player, had a successful homecoming at the BNP Paribas Poland Open after beating Magdalena Frech 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round. Swiatek defeated her compatriot in her first tournament since Wimbledon's third round brought an end to her legendary 37-match winning streak, and she is now back to winning ways.
With the triumph, Swiatek's winning streak on clay courts grew to 17 games and she now leads the tour with a 47-4 record this year. At that period, the two-time winner of the French Open has only dropped two sets and has won in Stuttgart, Rome, and Roland Garros this year.
Swiatek joins Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Justine Henin, and Maria Sharapova as the fifth player to win 17 or more straight matches on clay in the 2000s.
