Roberto Bautista Agut overcame Taro Daniel's late fight to win the Mallorca Championships in straight sets on Monday, setting up a potential second-round showdown with Nick Kyrgios at the ATP 250 event.
In the second set, the fifth seed was broken while serving for the match, but he recovered a 1/4 deficit in the tie-break to beat Daniel 6-4, 7-6(4) in Spain.
In the inaugural edition of the Mallorca event in 2021, Bautista Agut reached the quarter-finals before losing to eventual finalist Sam Querrey. Kyrgios or Laslo Djere, who play their first-round match on Tuesday, will stand in his way of matching that run this year.
The Spaniard is hoping to build on his previous success on grass, having won the first of his ten tour-level championships at s-Hertogenbosch in 2014 and reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2019.
