IPL 2021 Cricket Updates: Venkatesh Iyer, the opener for the Kolkata Knight Riders, stated that he is doing what the team has requested of him. He was also ecstatic to be part of the winning squad in such a tight race. Iyer smashed 55 runs in a 136-run chase, including four fours and three sixes.
He also put together a 96-run opening stand with Shubman Gill (46) to lay the foundation for Kolkata's tumultuous three-wicket triumph against Delhi Capitals in Sharjah on Wednesday.
-I am doing what has been asked of me. I am very happy that we ended on the winning side. There is no difference. I came out and played the way I wanted to play. I am grateful to the management. It is a wonderful place to come and play,- said Iyer, who was named -Player of the Match- for this live T20 knock.
Iyer revealed that he just tried to be himself in the match against Delhi Capitals, something which he hadn-t been doing in the previous matches. -I think in the past couple of games, I have been trying to restrict myself a bit as I wanted to stay till the end. But then I thought it was not me. I was losing out on the present trying to be a bit conservative.-
He was praising Gill, who had 46 points in the game. "Gill is a fantastic strokeplayer, and we complement each other perfectly."
"I'm not thinking about the Indian squad," Iyer said when asked about his reaction to being summoned to help the Indian team for the 2021 T20 World Cup tournament. "I have one more game and want to be totally focused on that." Kolkata Knight Riders have advanced to their third IPL final, where they will meet Chennai Super Kings for a third IPL title on Friday in Dubai.
