According to the latest reports, the IPL 2022 will begin on April 02 in India. As a result of COVID-19 concerns in India, the 2021 phase of the IPL was played half in India and half in the United Arab Emirates.
The 2022 edition will, however, be back entirely in India, as was already explained here. According to reports, the event will begin on April 2.
With Ahmedabad and Lucknow joining the existing eight teams, the IPL 2022 will have ten teams.
Also, there will be a mega auction where teams will settle on new combinations. The whole season will be completed in 60 days and the final will take place in June.
“I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,” a BCCI official said.
Every team will play 14 league games, seven at home and seven away. Chennai is likely to host the event, so Chepauk will be the obvious choice.
As the defending champions, CSK will kick off the proceedings, but the opponents are yet to be announced. Ness Wadia recently proposed to BCCI the idea of holding some overseas IPL games during the off-season.
“The BCCI must consider having off-season matches to be held in places where there is a big Indian diaspora. That will grow the IPL even more. A bunch of three or five games in the off-season based on player availability. Hypothetically, allow the top four franchisees every year to play a few games in, for example, Miami or in Toronto or in Singapore. It will only strengthen what already is a strong product, Ness Wadia said earlier in the day.
