India Cricket Update: According to reports, a consensus has formed on the subject of player retention for the next Indian Premier League auction, and the existing eight teams would most likely be permitted to keep up to four players.
BCCI and officials had informal negotiations on the way forward during the last days of the IPL in the UAE, and they agreed on a number. As previously reported, a team would be permitted to maintain up to three Indian and two international players, with a total number of retentions being no more than 4.
The player purse is expected to be INR 90 crore in the first two years, with gradual increases to INR 95 crore and INR 100 crore in the following two years. If a franchisee decides to keep four players, it will have to spend 40-45 percent of its budget on them.
The existing eight franchises have also been informed that the two new clubs may be permitted to choose two to three players outside of the auction, with the option of taking two international players if major Indian stars are not available.
At the auction, it's doubtful that current teams would be able to bid on Right to Match (RTM) cards, as mentioned in cricket news reports.
After the sale of two new clubs, which is likely to take place on October 25 in Dubai as of Friday (October 22), an official statement on the retention rule will be issued. A few bidding parties have already arrived in Dubai.
The retention regulations have finally answered the key issue in the IPL: Can CSK keep MS Dhoni? It is now apparent that he will be retained by the Chennai franchise, as N Srinivasan, the club's owner, recently stated "Dhoni is synonymous with CSK, Chennai, and Tamil Nadu. CSK would not exist without Dhoni, and Dhoni would not exist without CSK." The two Indians are anticipated to be Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad, with DJ Bravo or Faf du Plessis as the foreign player on their roster.
