Jasprit Bumrah's recovery from injury may take longer than anticipated, and the star bowler is likely to miss the Indian Premier League 2023, which is set to begin on March 31.
The 29-year-old has been out of action for nearly five months, and his return is still being postponed. He was anticipated to play in either the ODIs against Australia or the final two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. However, his name was absent from the roster once more, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not provided any official update.
Bumrah last appeared for India during the home series against Australia in September 2022, where he suffered a back injury. It was expected to be a minor setback but he went on to miss the 2022 T20 World Cup and is yet to get the clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Mumbai Indians, who placed last in IPL 2022, will suffer greatly if Bumrah is unable to play in the IPL this season. Jofra Archer, a star pacer who missed the entire 2022 season due to injury, will return, which will strengthen MI's team.
