After many COVID-19 cases were identified in the tour core support crew, England captain Joe Root stated that there is an "element of nervousness" two days before the opening of the fourth Ashes Test here.
The unhappy captain went on to say that he was happy that the problem "was resolved fast" and that the tour could continue.
Just before the start of the Boxing Day Test on December 26, the England team was hit by a COVID-19 problem, with two support staff members and two of their family members testing positive for the virus.
Later, while in isolation in Melbourne, head coach Chris Silverwood tested positive as well.
"It's one of those irritating things that can develop in the current atmosphere in which we live and play. Of course, there's some caution surrounding COVID, especially given the number of cases we've seen involving the games themselves "According to Root said.
"Thankfully, it was resolved as fast as possible, and the medical staff appears confident that no one was put in danger or that anyone was in close contact," Root added.
Both of England's bowling coaches, fast-bowling coach Jon Lewis and spin coach Jeetan Patel are in isolation ahead of the SCG Test after testing positive. Only assistant coach Graham Thorpe, fielding consultant Ant Botha, and wicketkeeping specialist James Foster are available to England as the squad attempts to end its losing streak in the New Year.
Root stated that his side will make the best of the few coaching tools available to them.
"Whether it's you guys in the media, your family, or the opposition... Unfortunately, this is the world we live in, and we must make the best of it.
"You have to trust the medical advice; those men earn to do their job just as much as we are to put on shows, and we simply have to get on with it as best we can."
Root stated that the SCG Test preparations were "unfocused" at the time, but he had little choice but to face the issue.
