With a brilliant effort against Yoshihito Nishioka on Sunday, Karen Khachanov easily advanced to the Australian Open quarterfinals.
The 18th seed defeated the left-handed Japanese opponent 6-0, 6-0, 7-6(4) to get to the final eight at the year's first major. "You try to stay focussed all the match, even though sometimes it doesn't go your way and [at] some points [it] goes up and down," Khachanov said. "I think the belief and self-confidence helps you to go all the way."
Khachanov has now gone to the quarterfinals at all four Grand Slams, making him the 50th player in the Open Era to do so. He will next play either 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz or 29th seed Sebastian Korda.
