French striker Karim Benzema suffered a thigh injury during practise and will not play in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. After assisting Real Madrid in winning the Champions League and La Liga, Benzema was awarded the 2022 Ballon d'Or, which is given to the player of the year in international football.
He experienced a thigh injury, according to the French national squad, and will be unable to participate in the competition. Randal Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt was called up to take Christopher Nkunku's place when Nkunku hobbled out of practise. France plays Australia on November 22, Denmark on November 26, and Tunisia on November 30 in Group D.
The 34-year-old Benzema, who has scored 37 goals in 97 games for France, is injured, and head coach Didier Deschamps has until Monday to select a replacement. This is another setback for the World Cup champions.
Midfielders Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante are already out injured, and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is working to get well after missing the last five club games. Anthony Martial is among the possible replacements for Benzema.
