Team India opener KL Rahul is set to miss the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies which will commence on July 29, due to post infection recovery. He had recovered from his injuries and was expected to join the team for the shortest format of the series. But before entering the Caribbean nation, he was tested positive for COVID-19. Although he was expected to rejoin the squad shortly after healing, it is said that the BCCI medical staff has recommended the Karnataka cricketer to take more rest.
Rahul has had a difficult few weeks since in addition to missing a key England tour during which India played a Test, three ODIs, and as many T20 Internationals. He had to undergo sports hernia surgery in June and was rehabilitating in Bengaluru before testing positive for the virus.
A cricket website report says that Rahul, who has been recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru since flying to Germany for undergoing a sports hernia surgery in late June, will now be available for the ODIs against Zimbabwe in August, giving the T20Is against the West Indies a complete miss.
“He was understood to be a doubt for the T20I leg of the West Indies tour even if he returned the two mandatory negative tests. Depending on the outcome of his cardiovascular tests, Rahul could have been in consideration for the USA leg of the West Indies T20Is, on August 6 and 7. But now it appears certain that he will skip the tour altogether and instead focus on the ODIs in Zimbabwe, which are part of the World Cup Super League,” said the report.
