Earlier in the day, the Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a good start as they restricted Delhi Capitals to just 38/1 after the first 6 overs.
Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Prithvi Shaw on 18 by trapping him LBW. Then Marcus Stoinis (18) and Shikhar Dhawan (36) put on 39 runs for the second stand before they were dismissed by Shivam Mavi and Chakaravarthy, respectively.
DC then reached 92/4 as Rishabh Pant (4) was sent packing by Lockie Ferguson. Varun would have had his third had it not been for a no-ball saving Shimron Hetmyer.
Shubman Gill took a brilliant diving catch but it was in vain. Eventually, a late blitz from Shreyas Iyer en route his unbeaten 30 off 27 balls, took Delhi to 135/5 in 20 overs.
Needing 136 runs to win from 120 balls, Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill got their side off to a blistering start. They stitched an unbeaten half-century opening stand to take KKR to 51/0 by the end of the Powerplay. The duo continued in the same vein, taking KKR to 76/0 in 10 overs.
Venkatesh Iyer went on to register his third IPL 50 before being dismissed on 55 by Kagiso Rabada. KKR needed 7 runs in the final over where Ravichandran Ashwin bowled first four balls brilliantly and got two wickets but Rahul Tripathi sealed the show with his winning six on the fifth ball against the off-spinner.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have booked a spot in the finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as they beat Delhi Capitals (DC) in Qualifier 1 by 3 wickets on Wednesday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
KKR had never lost an IPL final, they reached there two times before (2012, 2014) and emerged as winners both times.
