Due to the ongoing economic instability in Sri Lanka, LPL was postponed from its intended August 2022 start date.
Premier T20 competition in Sri Lanka, the Lanka Premier League (LPL), will take place in December 2022. The league was originally slated to begin in August, but it was delayed because of the island nation's economic instability. The third edition of the tournament will now begin on December 6.
Due to the previous government's economic policies, Sri Lanka is currently experiencing a severe socioeconomic crisis. Nationwide demonstrations protesting governments' lack of action to improve the situation prompted the change of government last month. The country was compelled to withdraw from hosting the forthcoming 2022 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka for the same reason.
On the sidelines of the briefing for the SLC Invitational T20 event, which began on Monday, LPL tournament organizer Samantha Dodanwela said, "It's my pleasure to announce that the LPL will be conducted from December 6th to December 23rd." IPG Group, the official tournament organizers, also tweeted about the revised dates for the Lanka Premier League on Tuesday.
