The Fruhvirtova sisters made progress this week toward their goal of teaming up for international competition. Linda advanced to her maiden Hologic WTA Tour final on Saturday by defeating 2020 French Open semifinalist Nadia Podoroska 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in Chennai. Brenda, her younger sister, has won 24 consecutive matches on the ITF Circuit.
Linda overcame a 4-2 deficit in the final set to win, and she is now anticipated to enter the WTA singles Top 100 rankings on Monday.
Since Coco Gauff won the championship at 2021 Parma at the age of 17 years, 70 days, Fruhvirtova is the youngest finalist at a Tour-level competition at 17 years, 140 days old. Since Nicole Vaidisova, who was 17 years, 34 days old when she won the competition in Strasbourg in 2006, Fruhvirtova is also the youngest Czech finalist.
In the Sunday final, Magda Linette of Poland will compete against Fruhvirtova. Linette won after Katie Swan, her opponent, gave up after falling behind 3-0.
