After a top-order collapse in the first Test against Pakistan in Chittagong on Friday, Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim both got fifty to help Bangladesh rebuild their innings.
At the tea break, Liton was on 62 and Mushfiqur was on 55, taking Bangladesh to 171-4 on the first day in Chittagong. After electing to bat first, the hosts were in big trouble at 49-4 until the pair turned the game around.
Liton led the attack with seven fours and a six against off-spinner Sajid Khan over long-on.
He smashed left-arm spinner, Nauman Ali, for his tenth Test fifty before Mushfiqur scored with a four off Hasan Ali for his 24th Test fifty.
In the first session, Pakistan's bowlers dominated, with Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, and Sajid all taking a wicket.
In the fifth over, Afridi delivered with a classic of a delivery that lifted quickly and skipped off opener Saif Hassan's bat to Abid Ali at short leg. He scored 14 points.
The other opener, Shadman Islam, was next bowled leg-before for a score of 14.
Soon after, Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque fell for just six runs as Sajid turned one quickly to catch an edge that wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan happily accepted.
Mominul was initially called not out by the umpire, but the decision was overturned after a review.
Najmul Hossain got off to a good start with a four, but he was out too soon, slicing a Faheem delivery to Sajid at the point.
