According to reports, Manchester United will look at other options after receiving unfavourable scouting reports on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
The 25-year-old midfielder made two appearances for Switzerland at the European Championships this summer and is regarded as one of Europe's best.
Gladbach, on the other hand, missed out on European contention last season by a point, and they are currently 12th in the Bundesliga this season, thus Zakaria is looking for a new team.
Zakaria's contract expires in the summer, so any move will have to wait until then. However, there have been rumours that something could happen in January.
For months, rumours have swirled around a possible move to Manchester United, with a story on Wednesday stating that the Red Devils had made a 'offer' to the midfielder's representatives.
After saying a week ago that the Red Devils had made 'no official bid' for Zakaria's services, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano was less optimistic about a probable move.
Man United head Ralf Rangnick would 'advocate' pursuing RB Leipzig's Amadou Haidara, but Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham and West Ham's Declan Rice remain their top two centre midfield targets.
Zakaria recently informed Gladbach of his decision not to sign a new contract and to pursue other opportunities. According to a statement on the club's official website, ‘Denis Zakaria has informed the club of his intention to leave in the summer after five years at Gladbach.’
