In order to advance to the French Cup's round of 16, Kylian Mbappe scored five goals as Paris St. Germain destroyed Pays de Cassel 7-0, a sixth-tier team. Pays de Cassel had previously won three games to go to the round of 32 and defended well against PSG before Mbappe scored the opening goal.
Four minutes later, Neymar scored, and two more goals were scored by Mbappe before halftime. After Carlos Soler's goal, Mbappe scored his fourth and fifth goals, setting up a match versus Marseille. Mbappe has now scored six goals in four games since tallying a hat-trick in the World Cup final loss to Argentina in December, bringing his season total to 23 goals across all competitions.
For PSG, a player had never scored five goals in a single game before. While Mbappe and Neymar played the entire 90 minutes with PSG looking to add to their record 14 French Cup victories, Lionel Messi sat out the contest.
