In order to defeat relegation-threatened Brest and increase their lead at the top of Ligue 1, Paris St. Germain had to wait until the very end. As Carlos Soler scored from close range after Kylian Mbappe's attempt was parried before the end of first half, PSG was well on its way to a flawless evening. The hosts quickly equalised unexpectedly and defended well to mostly stop the leads from finding a winner.
Yet in the final minute, Mbappe calmly sunk the winning goal after circling the goalkeeper. After being eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday, PSG was trying to go back to winning ways. However, they had a very difficult time doing it.
They recorded 17 shots to Brest's 7 and were predictably dominant for the majority of the game. The hosts put up a strong defensive effort, and the French champions consistently lacked the cutting edge in the final third, but they battled until the last end to secure the victory. PSG now leads Ligue 1 by 11 points, despite having played one more game than Marseille, who is now in second place. Brest are one point off relegation with an extra match played.
