Mo Salah has become accustomed to being fouled often without receiving a whistle, but the Liverpool No. 11 isn't one for "rolling around" or "whining." Salah is never awarded nearly as many free kicks as one would think he should be given given the positions he finds himself in and the threat he poses to the opposition. Many Liverpool fans have witnessed him being hauled back, clipped, or even put in a headlock by referees without so much as a second glance, which has been a source of aggravation for many.
In actuality, Salah received only 30 fouls in 35 Premier League appearances throughout the 2012/13 season, averaging 0.86 fouls per game. Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace, on the other hand, had the most fouls with 124 at the end of the season. Salah, though, is not one to exaggerate if he has not been injured, as the art of the game is to keep "your feet on the pitch," rather than flailing around on the ground.
“If I get fouled, I get up and don’t complain against the referee,” Salah told France Football in a recent interview.
“To play good football you have to have your feet on the pitch, that’s all! There’s no point in rolling around on the ground and whining.”
It's a mentality that Salah benefits from, whether or not he's been called for a foul, because it contributes to the psychology of not exposing a weakness to the opposition. Salah's steadfastness and ability to speak with his feet firmly planted on the ground has served him well, as evidenced by his 31 goals and 15 assists in 2021/22. However, it would be a wonderful sight for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool to hear the Egyptian's name called more frequently.
