Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field first in the first One-Day International between India and the West Indies at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahemdabad. Siraj bowled in the third over of the innings, despite the Indian bowling being new and without their regular attack.
Shai Hope was batting on 8 for 9 balls, with two boundaries. Hope hit two back-to-back fours on the second and third deliveries of Mohammad Siraj's third over of the innings. Siraj showed outswing but no control on each of these deliveries, as Hope smacked those fours on the off-side.
Siraj, on the other hand, put up the fourth delivery, this time with a confused seam. Taking a step back, the West Indies batsman attempted to drive the ball away from his body. On the other hand, the ball cut back in off the seam, taking the inside edge of Hope's bat and releasing the middle and leg stumps. Siraj made an excellent choice by bowling two outswingers and then following up with a jumbled seam ball of the same length.
Indian bowlers have struggled to take wickets in the first powerplay in ODIs since 2019, but Siraj hit the wicket first in the third over and celebrated with a "Siuu" celebration like Cristiano Ronaldo style.
