In the ongoing second Test match between Australia and India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Nathan Lyon became the third bowler overall and first Australian to record 100 wickets in Border-Gavaskar Trophy history. In his 24th Test match against India, Lyon accomplished the feat by taking the wicket of KS Bharat in the second innings to clinch his five-wicket haul.
Only former Indian spinners Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin have taken more or the same number of wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Lyon. With 111 wickets in 20 games, Kumble leads the series all-time in wickets taken, while Ashwin is just behind him with 100 in the same number of games.
Lyon's five-wicket haul in the second Test was his eighth in Tests against India, the most by any bowler against the Indian Team. Bypassing Muttiah Muralitharan, who had seven five-wicket hauls against India, he made a greater impact.
