In a heavyweight National Bank Open second-round match in Montreal on Wednesday, Nick Kyrgios defeated World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-2, earning the greatest victory of his hot winning streak.
Serving and volleying strategies were regularly used by Kyrgios to take advantage of the defending champion's defensive positioning on returns. In addition, he avoided the two break points he encountered during the two-hour match in the ATP Masters 1000 competition.
Kyrgios has now won 14 of his previous 15 matches after followed up his run to his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in June with his seventh ATP Tour victory last week. The Australian moves up to No. 31 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings after defeating Medvedev.
