Nicolas Jarry, a former finalist at the Gonet Geneva Open, defeated two-time champion Casper Ruud on Thursday to record his fifth Top 10 victory and first since 2019. The Chilean, who advanced after two hours and 32 minutes and reached the title match in Geneva in 2019, racked up 12 aces and won 80% (41/51) of their first-serve points.
This week, the 27-year-old Jarry is going for his second tour-level victory of the year after winning in Santiago on clay. In the semi-finals Jarry who beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in's-Hertogenbosch in 2019 will face third-seeded Alexander Zverev.
In Geneva, Ruud was going for his third straight victory. The Norwegian has never lost in Switzerland (17-1), and he has won in Gstaad in 2021 and 2022.
