CWI CEO Johnny Grave confirmed that the development will have no impact on the tour, which will go as planned.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has revealed that Roston Chase, Kyle Mayers, and Sheldon Cottrell of the West Indies tested positive for Covid-19 a day before the start of the limited-overs series against Pakistan in Karachi.
On December 9, the West Indies limited-overs squad landed in Karachi, and all players were placed in hotel quarantine. Three players, as well as a non-coaching member of the team management unit, tested positive after routine testing upon their arrival. All four individuals have been isolated from the rest of the squad and will not be available for the upcoming series, according to reports. They are completely vaccinated and healthy.
CWI CEO Johnny Grave stated that "the development will have no impact on the tour, which will go as planned, though he admitted that the above-mentioned players' last-minute absence "will seriously damage our team preparations."
The grave was reported in a CWI announcement as saying, "Our arrival testing processes in Pakistan have verified four (4) COVID-19 positives." "Despite this severe obstacle to our preparation plans, we are hopeful that the tour can continue as everyone else returned negative PCRs prior to their entry into Pakistan and two negative PCRs since they have been in Karachi."
The series begins on December 13 with the opening T20I, followed by matches on December 14 and 16. From December 18 to 22, three ODIs will follow the T20Is. All of the matches will be played in Karachi's National Stadium, with T20Is counting towards the ICC T20I rankings and ODIs counting towards the ICC Men's ODI World Cup Super League, which ensures direct qualification to the top seven teams plus champions (India) for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
