There will be ten group runners up and two group winners from the UEFA Nations League 2020/21 competing for a place in Qatar in the 2022 World Cup, which runs from 21st November 2021 to 18th December 2021.
In addition to Scotland, Portugal has also qualified for the 2022 World Cup play-offs.
During the playoffs in 2022, the 10 group runners-up will take part, as well as the two best group winners from the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League overall ranking who are neither group winners nor runners-up already.
On November 26, 2021, those 12 teams will be drawn into three play-off paths for a semi-final and a final, with the three path winners then qualifying for the tournament in Qatar.
Six of the top runners-up will be seeded and play at home, whereas the other four, along with the two UEFA Nations League teams, are unseeded and must travel. As a result of their win over Denmark in their final qualifying match, Scotland is seeded for the playoffs, which means they will play their play-off semi-final at home.
France and Wales would be the two teams to enter the play-offs via the Nations League, meaning Robert Page's side has already secured a playoff berth based on their Nations League ranking.
The Czech Republic and Austria are guaranteed to finish outside the top two in their respective groups, so no other country is competing to qualify for one of the two additional places.
The draw will take place at 4 p.m. (UK time) on Friday, November 26 in Zurich.
In Pot 1, the six runners-up - based on points, goal difference, and goals scored - will be drawn as the home team in six semi-finals.
Pot 2 will then be used to draw the remaining teams into semi-finals 1-6.
There will be three playoff paths, with each providing a World Cup finalist.
Semi-finals 1 and 2 make up playoff path A, semi-finals 3 and 4 from path B, and semi-finals 5 and 6 will contest path C.
To determine which semi-final winner will play at home in the final, an additional draw will be held for each path.
