With a straightforward victory at Troyes, Paris St. Germain closed the gap on the Ligue 1 championship to three victories. In their first game following the suspension of World Cup winner Lionel Messi, PSG was in complete control.
In the eighth minute, Kylian Mbappe gave the champs the lead, and Vitinha doubled it midway through the second half. Late in the game, Troyes scored thanks to Xavier Chavalerin, but PSG soon added a third goal through Fabian Ruiz. PSG, who entered this game having dropped three of their previous six contests, now just needs seven more points to win a record-setting 11th French championship.
With four more games left in the season, they have a six-point lead over Lens, who are currently in second place. Troyes remained in 19th place, 12 points away from safety. To have any chance of surviving the relegation, they must win all of their remaining games and pray that the results fall their way.
