On Thursday, February 24, Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United will face off in the first round of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022. The match will be held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Last month, United began their season with a beating of Zalmi by nine wickets. However, as the event progressed, the team had some difficulties. They are no longer with Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Paul Stirling, or Alex Hales.
United have been without a regular figure since Shadab Khan's injury. Despite the fact that Asif Ali has taken over as captain, their bowling attack has been severely depleted. United, despite being on a three-match losing streak, has managed to qualify for the playoffs.
The Quetta Gladiators, led by Sarfaraz Ahmed, concluded with four wins as well, but United advanced due to a better net run rate. They'll be coming off a six-wicket loss against the Multan Sultans, led by Mohammad Rizwan, on February 20.
United only managed to reach 105 for the loss of seven wickets after choosing to bat first. In the 20s, Liam Dawson and Muhammad Musa each scored, but neither scored. The Sultans upset United with two wickets each from Asif Afridi and Imran Tahir.
Following that, the Sultans reached the mark in 17.2 overs, thanks to skipper Rizwan's undefeated 42-ball 51. Despite taking three wickets for 16 runs, Liam Dawson's efforts were in vain.
On the other hand, the Zalmi, captained by Wahab Riaz, is having a good run in the league. They are now on a four-match winning streak after a difficult start to the season. The Zalmi are coming off a Super Over win over the Lahore Qalandars.
Zalmi scored 158 for seven after batting first. Shoaib Malik top-scored for them with a 32-ball knock. The game went into the Super Over after Shaheen Afridi's unbeaten 20-ball 39. Malik, on the other hand, hit two fours in the one-over eliminator to send Zalmi home.
