Rahul Dravid joined as the head coach of the Indian team after the T20 World Cup in 2021.
He was chosen to coach the squad in both the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup. Rahul's agreement with BCCI terminated along with the latter.
The renowned cricketer acknowledged after the match that he has not yet decided on his future with the Indian squad. This is because the BCCI is expected to make a decision shortly, perhaps in time for the upcoming Twenty20 International Series against Australia.
After Ravi Shastri called his time as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to change things as Rohit Sharma was appointed as the white-ball skipper, while Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the team.
Dravid wasn't prepared to lead the national team despite his outstanding work with the NCA and the U19 squad, but Sourav Ganguly, the president of the BCCI, and Dravid's former teammate convinced him, and he was named for the following two years.
The 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup were the goals that were placed in front of him. The Men in Blue lost to Australia in the ODI World Cup final and were eliminated from the T20 World Cup in the semifinals, hence Dravid's team was unable to win either of the two trophies. Following this, Dravid’s contract with BCCI has come to an end.
India are slated to play a five-match T20I series against Australia from November 23 and ahead of that, they currently do not have a head coach on board. NCA head VVS Laxman might end up being the head coach for the series but nothing is confirmed as of now.
