At the 2017 Nitto ATP Finals, Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury lost the championship match in heartbreaking fashion. One year later, the second seeds put on a strong effort on Sunday to guarantee they would not lose at the very last moment once more. They defeated Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic to win in Turin and remain unbeaten. The American-British team defeated the Croatians 7-6(4), 6-4 in a high-caliber final, capping up their season in northern Italy in fine fashion.
Ram is the 18th American to take home the Nitto ATP Finals doubles championship, while Salisbury is the first British player to achieve so. The unbeaten champions have received $930,300 and 1,500 Pepperstone ATP Doubles Rankings points, which is the highest doubles prize money in history.
Ram and Salisbury have now won nine tour-level championships as a team after falling to Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in last year's final. They won ATP Masters 1000 titles in Monte Carlo and Cincinnati, as well as their third Grand Slam championship at the US Open, in a spectacular season that saw them go 37-14 overall.
