Ravindra Jadeja's exclusion from the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 owing to a right knee injury can be viewed as a huge setback for Team India. Axar Patel, one of the squad's standbys, has been chosen as Jadeja's relacement. In a formal statement released on Friday (September 2), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acknowledged the same .
"Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury and is ruled out of the tournament. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team," the BCCI said in a statement.
"His replacement, Axar Patel, was earlier named as one of the standbys in the squad and will join the team in Dubai soon."
The absence of Jadeja is a serious setback for India because the all-rounder has been in an outstanding form recently. In India's opening encounter against Pakistan, he hit the game-winning 35, and in the following match against Hong Kong, he was clinical with the ball. The responsibility will now fall on Axar, a suitable substitute for the all-rounder.
Meanwhile, India, has moved to the Super 4 round after winning both of their games in the group round. In their future encounter, which will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (September 4), they will either face Pakistan or Hong Kong.
