Olympique Marseille and Roma have reached an agreement for midfielder Jordan Veretout. In the second half of the last campaign, the 29-year-old Frenchman lost favour with Jose Mourinho and began to gradually drop out of the starting 11 in the Italian city. It was obvious that some room would need to be made after Roma signed Georginio Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Olympique Marseille has agreed to pay Roma about €11 million for Veretout, with a further €4.5 million in add-ons — €1 million after 15 appearances, €1 million after 30 appearances, and €2.5 million with Champions League qualification — connected to the contract.
The French team is now seeking to close the transaction as soon as possible because they want to have him in their lineup before the upcoming Ligue 1 season. Wijnaldum is scheduled to arrive in the Italian capital today in advance of his pre-transfer medicals tomorrow, and Roma is getting ready to greet him.
