At the Amsterdamse Bos in Amstelveen today, England successfully completed their historic maiden tour of the Netherlands. After being called in to bat, the Dutch slumped from a promising 203-3 to 244 all-out, with England chasing the mark down in just 30.1 overs. David Willey finished with 4-36. With the support of Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, the centurion Jason Roy helped England win the CWC Super League ODI series 3-0 and overtake Bangladesh at the top of the league.
For the last ODI, there was a third captaincy combination with both keepers leading; Jos Buttler replaced Eoin Morgan, whose groin issue caused him to join Seelaar on the injured list. Fred Klaassen and Paul van Meekeren flew in after finishing their T20 Blast obligations to provide reinforcements for the Dutch across the North Sea, but it would not be enough to stop England from winning easily in front of a slightly smaller but still raucous crowd.
The hosts established a strong foundation at 203-3 by the 39th over thanks to fifty scores from Max O'Dowd, Bas de Leede, and Scott Edwards. However, the final ten overs would be a one-way street as the Dutch depth once again fell short as seven wickets fell for just 41 runs. The target would prove a cakewalk for England, a double-strike from the returning Paul van Meekeren at the end of the powerplay the only interruption to an exhibition from the tourists' batting card.
When van Meekeren attempted a slower bouncer and dragged it down at his feet, the ball bounced twice before reaching Buttler, who deservedly crushed it over square for six into the crowd. At that point, the game deteriorated into farce. With van Meekeren missing the yorker and Buttler creaming it high and directly over the cameras and out of the ground, the free hit went much further. With the score suddenly at 226-2, 26 came off that over, and Roy started to worry that he might not have enough room for his century.
De Leede became the victim as Roy went down the ground straight, past the covers, and then straighter again to hit his ton off just 86 balls. Three boundaries off the following over would get him there. With Buttler swinging through the line, high and away for England's 34th six of the series and an eight-wicket victory with nearly 20 overs remaining, the game was over after one ball.
Brief scores: Netherlands 244 in 49.2 overs (Scott Edwards 64; David Willey 4-36) lost to England 248/2 in 30.1 overs (Jason Roy 101*, Jos Buttler 86*) by 8 wickets
