Casper Ruud is once again a semifinalist for the Nitto ATP Finals after being pushed all the way in a nail-biting night session on Tuesday.
In a titanic match against Taylor Fritz at the season finale in Turin, the third seed won 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(6) to secure his advancement from the Green Group. The Norwegian followed up his first victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime by remaining composed in the tight two-hour, 12-minute tie-break that decided the match.
After the players shared the first two sets, which were mostly decided by service, Fritz's wizardry averted a break point at 2-2, 40/A with an incredible diving backhand volley, keeping the match tied. Although Fritz saved two match opportunities from 4/6 in the third set, Ruud was able to hold his ground and secure victory in the pair's first ATP Head2Head encounter by facing no break points and striking some hard shots.
