Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan stated that his team needs to improve in every area to succeed in the format after a 2-0 loss to West Indies in the away Test series. He believes it is Bangladesh's duty to revive Test cricket culture in the cricketing nation.
Shakib claimed that his team was not as resilient as they needed to be in terms of displaying character following the defeat in the previous Test match against the West Indies. He believed that the difference was caused by the team losing wickets soon before the end of sessions.
He added, "We have a responsibility to bring Test culture back to the country," when discussing the development of a Test culture in Bangladesh. Otherwise, we won't be able to advance too far. Not that we don't value Test cricket, I suppose. But our outcomes are not excellent. These two are interrelated.
Shakib also added that lack of Test cricket culture is one of the reason why cricketers are leaning towards white-ball cricket, citing the need to change the scenario.
"I think you can't fault the players totally for it (being less interested in Tests) because our system is like that. When did you see that 30,000 or 25,000 fans are watching a Test match from the ground whereas in England this happens in every match. So there was no Test culture in our country before and that is not there even today," said Shakib.
