Spanish international Joselu has been acquired by Real Madrid on a season-long loan from Espanyol with the option to buy at the end of the season. Joselu, 33, finished third in La Liga in goals scored last season with 16 despite his team being relegated. The attacker, a former member of Stoke City and Newcastle United, also scored in Spain's successful Nations League campaign.
Joselu, who joined Real's youth academy in 2010, is back in the Spanish capital. In 2011 he made his first appearance for the first squad against Almera and scored three minutes later. The Spanish striker has competed in both the Bundesliga and Premier League since leaving Real Madrid in 2012.
Real striker Karim Benzema left to join the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, prompting his signing. Real are attempting to fill the void left by the French attacker who won the Ballon d'Or and was their second-highest scorer in team history. As the ideal successor for Benzema, Tottenham and England captain Harry Kane has been linked with a move to Madrid.
